She didn’t notice the man sitting next to the Coast Guard station, the dark man with wild hair and a wild beard and the ruddy look of someone who’d been outdoors and drunk for months. But I saw him. How could I not? He stared back at me with my own eyes. We held each other’s gaze for a few long moments. I tried to figure out a way to distract Candi so I could go over to Johnny and tell him I loved him. But the boardwalk was empty, and the shops were shuttered closed. I turned my face from his, and hustled Candi into the car with the promise of a stop for Chinese food. I looked back, and he was still staring at me. I did not reach out to him. In the end, the compact size, durability, and single-purpose use case of the GoPro action camera make it the ideal action camera, even when you’ve got a phone in your pocket. Its one-touch recording capabilities make it simple to grab and go, and you’re bound to fret less about it falling on the asphalt when compared to your thin, action-averse smartphone in a bulky case. If money is a concern, buy a helmet mount for your device and test it out, at least to see if you like it. But if you’re doing anything more than riding your bike to work, and want to capture the spectacle, get yourself a GoPro and go big (or go home).
Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town (2015) explores how rape is handled by colleges and the criminal justice system. The book follows several case studies of women raped in Missoula, Montana , many of them linked in some way to the University of Montana . Krakauer attempts to illuminate why many victims do not want to report their rapes to the police, and he criticizes the justice system for giving the benefit of the doubt to assailants but not to victims. Krakauer was inspired to write the book when a friend of his, a young woman, revealed to him that she had been raped.
